MODEL BUILDING TIPS

This model will require more than one sitting to build it. We advise to pause between different stages as you work, especially when you come to gluing. The white glue softens the paper and it may lead to misshapen parts if you do not allow them to dry well before proceeding further with assembling. Click here to watch our paper model building tips.

Give yourself enough time to enjoy the process and achieve the best result!

ABOUT THIS LANDMARK

The Parthenon, located on the Acropolis in Athens, Greece, is a monumental example of ancient Greek architecture, constructed between 447 and 432 BCE. This temple was dedicated to the goddess Athena Parthenos, the patron deity of Athens. Designed primarily in the Doric order, the Parthenon uniquely incorporates certain elements of the Ionic order as well, showcasing the architectural innovation of its time.

The structure measures approximately 70.8 meters in length and 31.7 meters in width, with a height of 15 meters. It was built using Pentelic marble and originally contained a massive statue of Athena, crafted by Phidias from gold and ivory.

Throughout its history, the Parthenon has served various purposes, including a treasury, a Christian church dedicated to the Virgin Mary, and a mosque during the Ottoman occupation. The building sustained significant damage in 1687 when an ammunition dump inside the building was ignited during a Venetian attack. Many original sculptures (the Parthenon Marbles) are now housed in the British Museum in London, with replicas displayed in the Acropolis Museum in Athens.
