MODEL BUILDING TIPS

This model will require more than one sitting to build it. We advise to pause between different stages as you work, especially when you come to gluing. The white glue softens the paper and it may lead to misshapen parts if you do not allow them to dry well before proceeding further with assembling. Click here to watch our paper model building tips.

Give yourself enough time to enjoy the process and achieve the best result!

ABOUT THIS LANDMARK

The Taj Mahal, located in Agra, India, is an exquisite example of Mughal architecture and one of the most renowned and admired buildings in the world. Commissioned in 1632 by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan, it was built as a mausoleum for his favorite wife, Mumtaz Mahal, who died during childbirth.

The Taj Mahal is known for its symmetrical beauty and is considered a prime example of Indo-Islamic architecture. Its central structure is a large, white marble dome that stands on a square base. The dome is approximately 35 meters (115 feet) high and is surrounded by four smaller domed chattris. The main dome is topped with a gilded finial which mixes traditional Persian and Hindustani decorative elements.

The Taj Mahal complex includes several other buildings, including a mosque and a guest house, and is set within large, meticulously landscaped gardens. The complex is bounded on three sides by crenellated red sandstone walls.

The construction of the Taj Mahal involved thousands of artisans and craftsmen, and materials were sourced from all over India and Asia. Precious and semi-precious stones were inlaid into the white marble in intricate patterns, a technique known as pietra dura.

The Taj Mahal is not only a UNESCO World Heritage Site but also a symbol of India's rich history. It is often celebrated as an icon of love, given its origin as a heartfelt tribute to a beloved wife.
